Decupage with Sian Davies

It's a pity that the art of decoupage has been replaced by other new trends in Hobby Art.

I gave it a go when the market was full of wonderfully couloured napkins to choose from and delicate sheets of rice paper.

I convinced a friend to come on a course with me and we each did an ambitious, rather large, flat glass plate (which I still have) and we both returned home satisfied with our creations.

My friend carried on with fruit themes on trays, tins and wooden boxes - I preferred glass with the rice paper backing that made them look precious. It became almost a mania and anything that came to hand that could be 'decoupaged' was mine ; even watering cans (obviously the last layer was a transparent spray to protect the topic I had chosen from the rain)!!!

Here too you need to be patient and very precise when tearing or cutting around the special paper / napkins. I found it easier to use paper because when glueing the napkins they tended to sort of absorb the glue and wrinkle up spoiling the smooth effect.

At the time there were a lot of very good products on the market (not always economical) so all you needed was a full piggy bank, lots of imagination and a nice place with good light to work in.

Once again here are a few of my creations.
